

AMIT TANDON
DigiLit JMC conducted a live with Mr. Amit Tandon which explored the world of blue tick culture and its perks and challenges. The live gave an insight on how different age groups tend to demand different content that they feel is applicable to their life and how the source of revenue comes from various apps. It also illuminated upon the impact of negative comments that various content creators receive, be it in very less numbers. However, he also highlighted the fact that constructive criticism provided by the audience is often helpful. Lastly, he highlighted upon his content that is widely based on marriage and kids. He recalls the message that he tries to give through his Netflix show that often parents forget individuality and only identify themselves as parents for the rest of their lives. He advocated individuality for everyone in the family so as to create a free space for everyone.


RUSHI MEHTA
DigiLit JMC and Peace Society of JMC collaborated for an engaging session that was conducted by Mr. Rushi Mehta who currently works for Government of India and formerly as a consultant for PwC. Members from both the chapters joined the session and sir discussed in detail on various topics including online dating, internet banking and shopping. For both the chapters, the session was an eye-opener since there were myriad of things that the members were unaware about and they got to know about through this session which was held successfully in February 2021.
SHREYA BASU
DigiLit JMC conducted a live with Shreya Basu as part of a collaboration with SAFETIPIN on challenges that women face while navigating online spaces. My Safetipin is an app that is made for women so that they have an equal access to online spaces without any hassles. One of the main points highlighted elucidated upon the fact that there’s a gender gap in the online space. Half of the women do not have the independence to access social media accounts on their own. Either handled by their brother, husband or even fathers at times. Women are questioned on the basis of their social media profile being public or private. A general norm has been created that if you have a public account, you’re liable to respond to every message and comment that you’ll receive. The session highlighted on how this is not a reasonable expectation. The concept of consent was also discussed.


ANIL RACHAMALLA
DigiLit JMC conducted a live with Mr. Anil Rachamalla as part of a collaboration with ENDNOW Foundation, an organisation that advocates for a better internet ethic and digital wellness. It greatly emphasised on the balance between online and offline world and how it is crucial for everyone to aim for smart netizen ideology. Mr. Rachamalla also accentuated on the importance of maintaining formal speech for certain occasions instead of using slang. Ultimately, he asserted the importance of having knowledge on data privacy and being cautious in the digital space.
PRACHI TEHLAN
DigiLit JMC’s live with Prachi Tehlan focused on “Breaking stereotypes and pursuing unconventional careers". The live enlightened us with remarks on how women support women and the societal claims of women being rivals remains untrue. It also emphasised on the need for online safety and advocacy platforms that can help deal with the adverse effects of social media. For celebrities, these media apps are essential of the maintenance of their identity. Ms. Tehlan also raises up challenges she faces against the male contemporaries and high negative remarks that she comes across. Lastly, she advocates cautious use of social media and the need of digital detox from Time to time.


SANCHAALI CHAKRAVORTY
DigiLit JMC’s live with Sanchaali Chakravorty explored the area of body diversity and self-love. It illuminated on how people in India promote the idea of an ideal body image that only emphasises on being thinner. The idea of “the perfect body” is forced upon all individuals. The live promoted the vision that everyone cannot be fit into a singly standard of “beauty” and that everyone is unique and different. The inspirational live also talked about the realities of being a plus size model in the modelling industry, the impact of trolls and abuse on social media and how the current generation should work hard to change these unrealistic beauty standards. Ultimately, it decoded the importance of body positivity and advocated its use in our life.
