The SOCIAL DILEMMA

DigiLit JMC kickstarted its series of campaigns with the Netflix original series called ‘The Social Dilemma’. The series is based on some real-life events that concerns with technology and includes interview sessions with formerly and currently employed members of the big organisations like Facebook and Google. The series will keep you hooked throughout its course of time and ironically the concept of “getting hooked to a series” is what the series was against of.
In general, the series aimed to aware its viewers as to what is it that the technology des to you and how important it is to ‘log-off’. Through this series, the team of DigiLit JMC incorporated the pros as well as the cons of the series and provided a fair point of view considering both the aspects.

Edureka Security Breach

 

The famous Edureka security breach which happened on 1st August 2020 shook the entire country. Approximately 2.5 million people were affected. According to reports 2.5 gigabytes of the data and much of their records have been tampered. The cause of this attack is considered to be no password security setup in their S- based Elastic Search Server. It's not just one e-learning platform but in the year 2020 reportedly 36 Indian Government websites were hacked.

According to reports, biggest card dumps are there for the use of cyber criminals. One just requires a track 2 type of data that is easily accessible on the strip of e-cards.  Unfortunately, the organization behind this scam is still untraceable. There has been an increased use of cards for dark web from 27.1 million to 43.8 million.

While the ethnic situations in India have always seen ups and downs, anti- Islamic posts on Facebook led to inevitable violence. In August 2020, thousands of protestors lashed with the police in Bangalore which was around MLA Murthy's residence. The posts were about derogatory statements regarding Prophet Mohammed which fueled the situation and 50 police personnel along with 3 people suffered major injuries.

WhatsApp Mob
 

WhatsApp is supposed to make everyone's personal and professional lives easier. However, it has also been a source of major conflicts and controversies. Tech experts have often raised concerns how apps like WhatsApp are used by some people to spread rumors which in turn lead to violence, especially during the lockdown period. Whatsapp has now cooperated with the Indian Government to trace the roots of such information and how to curb this menace.
