The founders of WhatsApp are Jan Koum and Brian Acton which was founded in 2009 with Facebook as its parent organisation. The common features of WhatsApp includes group video calls for 8 users, its status feature like the stories on Instagram and one can even share live location with their contacts.

In terms of security, the app uses a secure End to End Encryption method that means messages are encrypted at the point of departure and unencrypted only once it reaches the receiver. However, it does not encrypt backups on the device or cloud and not even metadata. This means that the time and location of the message can be extracted easily.

The updated privacy policy was intended to alert users that some businesses would soon be using Facebook owned servers to store the messages with consumers. This policy concerned the users even after repeated claims that Facebook won't use any such information.

signal
The founders of Signal are Moxie Marlinspike and Brian Acton. While the initial release of the app was in July 2014, the stable release was however in 2021. The app uses the internet to send a one-on-one message and group messages.

Some of its features include chat groups up to 10,000 participants, voice and video calling with a limit of 5 people and even supports self-destructing messages. An important feature of that app is that you can even send a note to yourself to capture your thoughts and emotions without creating any groups. For those of you who regret sending images after a while, it allows the user to have a one time viewable image option that disappears after it is viewed.

In terms of security, signal is deemed to be the best out of three. It uses the highly rated Signal Protocol to perform E2E encryption for every single message and call that passes through its servers. There is also an option to block the receivers from taking screenshot of a messages and the faces can be blurred while sending an image.

telegram
Telegram was founded by Parel Durov in August 2013. It is a cloud-based messenger with seamless syncs. As a result, one can access a message from several devices. There are dozens of features in their chat groups like automated bots, polls, quizzes and games. Most importantly, it does not require the phone to have an internet connection which is a bonus for a country like India where there is always a network issue.

Unfortunately, telegram is the least safe in terms of security as it uses Client-server encryption, which means messages can be encrypted and vice-versa even before sending the message. In simple terms, the app has access to all the content even it claims that a lot of legal work would be required to access the information.

Note: We do not particularly support or are against of any app. Our main aim is to aware users about the basic features and security so that they can make a decision suiting their personal needs.
