The digitalised forms of technology has advanced in an extremely rapid scale and according to the UN reports "have reached around 50% of the developing worlds populations. The term technology itself is very diverse encompassing almost every electronic media from the internet to computers to mobile phones and it has proved to have played a pivotal role in the development of human history since time immemorial.
These forms of technologies with a greater network of reach and the ability to enhance public services can prove to be a great asset especially in today's contemporary world. Taking for instance the coming up of AI technologies, they have no doubt accelerated not only the healthcare services but also the public services have been made more accountable and accessible through blockchain technologies and AI assistance. From our computer screens to mobile screens to our televisions on full display, it can be seen that we have become increasingly dependent on the algorithms of this rapidly advancing digitalised world. Technology has come to our assistance every step of our lives transcending even to the economic spheres of our lives
However, with the coming of this rapidly advancing technologies comes the problem of the fast paced and abrupt spread of misinformations pertaining to several issues. The replacement of physical forms of information by a digitalised form of information can certainly help in the spread of and equal accessibility to all sorts of informations across various parts of the world, it has no doubt led to the implication of the spread of false misleading alarms.Even during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen instances of the spread of false information which have proven to be extremely fatal to many people all across the world. Notwithstanding false information,it has caused severe breach of privacy issues like the pegasus issue which was uncovered recently exposing the sensitive data of millions over the globe. Another major factor which could be highlighted in this regard is the seamless blurring of the boundaries between reality and virtual worlds. This has led to the emergence of various forms of abuse and hate speech albeit in the online mode thereby affecting the ethical principles of the online world. This has accumulated in various forms of online harassment affecting the mental health and stability of people worldwide.
Systematic actions need to be taken in order to ensure that the seamless boundaries of the virtual world and digitalised spaces does not accelerate into something dangerous to the global world.
